The college has a well-defined policy to promote research. All the faculty members are actively involved in publication of research papers and participate in international national and state level conferences.Out of 10 aided teaching staff, 6 have completed their Ph.D., 1 is an M.Phil, and 3 are pursuing their Ph.D.
RESEARCH CENTRES IN COMMERCE (Ph.D & M.Phil) &ACCOUNTANCY (Ph.D)
The College is approved by the University of Mumbai for Ph.D Research Centres in Commerce and Accountancy, and M.Phil Research Centre in Commerce. The College has five registered Ph.D. Guides.
On 20th February, 2015, the College organised an International Conference conducted jointly with University of Mumbai on the theme "INDIA CALLING - A WORLD OF OPPORTUNITIES" (Initiate, Integrate, Innovate). The said conference was organized in the premises of University of Mumbai. About 300 papers were received from nook and corner of the world. Prominent speakers from across the globe graced the occasion and enlightened the audience with their respective experiences and wisdom.
On 12th December, 2015, a One-day International Conference on Multidisciplinary Research on Global Uncertainty: A Great Opportune Moment for Indian Economy was organized by DTSS College in association with JJTU. Dr. Sanjay Oak, VC, Padmashri D.Y. Patil University was Chief Guest at Inaugural Session. The Keynote Speaker was Emeritus Professor R. Balachandra of NorthWestern University, Boston, USA. Dr. Shailendra Deolankar, Joint Director, Mumbai Region, was Chief Guest at Valedictory Session.
RESEARCH GUIDANCE CENTRE
Apart from the approved Research Centres, the college has a Research Guidance Centre to facilitate implementation of the research schemes and projects which regularly organizes free seminars for research scholars and enthusiasts. Experts are invited as resource persons to increase the understanding of different aspects of research. Prin. Dr. Kurhade envisioned a forum where research knowledge would be shared freely and interactively, without inflicting any financial burden to the researchers. He realised the importance of a multi-faceted support system that could help the researchers with the rigours of academic research. It was as a step towards fulfilling this vision that the D.T.S.S College Research Guidance Centre was begun in February, 2013.
The very first sessionof the Centre had Prin. Dr. M.S. Kurhade giving a well-received talk on 'In Search of Research' on 11th February, 2013.
Since then, the Centre has grown from strength to strength, with reputed and experienced faculty from renowned institutions regularly coming to deliver special lectures on various aspects of research to an increasing number of knowledge-seeking participants. The lectures are usually held every fortnight or every month, on Sundays, in the calm and spacious environs of the college auditorium which is an ideal space for academic interaction and knowledge-sharing.
On 24th March, 2013,Dr. Attar Rabbani of I.Y. College gave a talk on 'Review of Literature'. The talk was attended by around forty research scholars of various Colleges and universities.
On 7th April, 2013, Mr. Santosh Hulgabali held an interactive session on 'Effective Search Strategy'.
On 21st April, 2013, Dr. Sunil Karve gave a talk on 'Understanding Plagiarism in Research'.
On 9th June, 2013, Prin. Dr. Farooqui, of Rizvi College, Mumbai, gave a talk on 'Questionnaire Framing and Testing of Hypothesis with relevant real-time examples and useful tips on preparing and testing of hypothesis.
On 13th June, 2013, the College was proud to host Dr. Narendra Jadhav, Hon'ble Member, Planning Commission, Government of India, and economist of global renown, who delivered a stimulating lecture on social and economic issues.
On 18th August, 2013, Dr. Arvind Dhond of St. Xavier's College, gave a talk on 'Writing Research Papers', explaining the skills and details required to write excellent research papers.
On 25th August, 2013, Dr. Madhukar Dalvi of Nagindas Khandwala College gave a talk on 'Research Data Analysis'.
On 22nd September, 2013, Dr. Madhukar Dalvi of Nagindas Khandwala College conducted a day-long workshop on 'Data Analysis Using MS-Excel and Mega Stat, which incorporated both theoretical concepts as well as hands-on practice.
On 2nd October, 2013,Dr. Arvind Dhond of Xavier's College and Mr. Nagesh Senigarapu, Asst. Professor at D.T.S.S College, gave presentations on NET/SLET in Commerce.
On 20th October, 2013,Dr. Arvind Luhar conducted a workshop on API/CAS rules and regulations for the benefit of teaching staff in colleges.
On 19th January, 2014,Dr. G.Y. Shitole, Principal, S.N.D.T. University's Women's College, Pune, imparted a lecture on 'Research Leading Towards Ph.D degree and Research Report Writing' for the benefit of those pursuing M.Phil, Ph.D and post-doctoral research.
On 9th February, 2014, there was a special series of talks on 'Different Aspects of Research' by six eminent Ph.D holders who presented their own experiences in topic selection, preparation of synopsis, problems faced and solutions reached, viva and award of Ph.D degree, and also on Major Research Projects. The speakers were Dr. Navin Punjabi (faculty at H.R. College), Dr. Somnath Vibhute (faculty at St. G.G. College), Dr. Pooja Ramchandani (faculty at H.R. College), Dr. Meeta Seta (In-Charge Principal, Patuck-Gala College), Dr. Arvind Dhond (faculty at St. Xavier's College), and Dr. C.A. Pradeep Kamthekar (faculty at R.A. Podar College). This was followed by expert opinions given by three invited experts. Research Guide Dr. Gopal Kalkoti (faculty at N.K. College) briefed the participants on the do's and don't's of research. Statistician Dr. Madhukar Dalvi (faculty at N.K. College) focused on the importance of having a basic understanding of quantitative tools before selecting a title and preparing a synopsis. Librarian Mr. Santosh Hulgabali (of N.K. College) discussed the arrangements of resources in research libraries and how to detect and scan the same in minimal time.
On 27th July, 2014, Dr. Arvind Luhar gave a very informative and useful talk on Instant Formation of Objective Problems and Hypothesis on Selected Topics.
On 19th October, 2014, Prin. M.B. Madlani gave a very relevant talk on "Importance of Research and Its Linkage with Industry".
On 10th May, 2015, D.T.S.S. College Research Guidance Centre organized a talk on "NET/SET Paper 1/2/3 Commerce". The Resource Persons were Dr. Somnath Vibhute, Asst. Prof. Anubhuti Singh, Asst. Prof. Radhika Iyer and Mr. Hitesh Suthar. 90 participants attended the talk.
On 2nd August, 2015, there was a talk on "Preparing Research Proposal for
M.Phil/PhD/MRP" by Dr. L.M. Dani Ex Principal, M.L Dahanukar College. His talk discussed in detail about research proposal preparation for Social Sciences and he also interacted with the audience through a question answer session.
On 4-5th March, 2016, a two-day Workshop on Data Analysis for Research Scholars was organised. Resource Persons were Mr. Rajendra Patil, DTSS College, and Mr. Rajan Nandola, Podar World College.
The innovative and interactive sessions have generated an increasingly positive response and D.T.S.S. College Research Guidance Centre looks set to be a guiding light for aspiring research scholars of the area, and proposes to expand its scope and reach in the coming years.
